Funeral Grants

After the loss of a loved one, you or your family may need financial assistance to help cover funeral expenses. We understand how difficult this time can be and are here to offer both guidance and support. If you have any questions or need help, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Additional Needs Payment

You may qualify for the Additional Needs Grant to assist with funeral expenses if you are on a low income.

Each application is assessed individually. While the Community Welfare Service encourages applying before the funeral, in reality, most applications are submitted afterward.

In many cases, payment or a grant cannot be issued until all required documentation has been provided. If you are applying for the grant, it is your responsibility to supply the necessary certificates, documents, and information, such as:

  • Death certificate

  • Birth certificate

  • Marriage or Civil Partnership certificate (to confirm your relationship to the deceased)

  • Funeral receipts

  • The deceased person’s Personal Public Service (PPS) number

  • Your own PPS number may also be needed

If you were living with or financially dependent on the deceased, your current benefits may be affected, or you might become eligible for additional support. Depending on your income and situation, you may qualify for a social welfare payment in your own right.

Support is only available for the essential elements of a dignified funeral. Please consult with us before making any financial commitments related to funeral arrangements.
